November 19, 2024
Forbes Ballroom 3, Conrad Manila
The Women in APAA event at APAA 2024 was an inspiring celebration of women’s empowerment, diversity, and cultural pride. Hosted at the Conrad Manila, the event brought together trailblazing female lawyers from across the region for an evening of inspiration, connection, and celebration.
The highlight of the evening was a powerful keynote by Gemma Cruz Araneta, a trailblazer in her own right and a direct descendant of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. With her roots deeply intertwined with the Philippines’ revolutionary history, Gemma spoke with conviction about the pioneering spirit of Filipino women. She highlighted the nation’s groundbreaking milestones, including being the first to implement minimum wage laws, export rice, and engage in a trans-Pacific trade route. She recounted the anti-colonization movements led by Dr. Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio, intertwining their legacy with a powerful call to support local crafts and industries. Her words resonated deeply, igniting a profound sense of pride and purpose among the attendees.
APAA President Hari Subramaniam followed with a heartfelt welcome message, celebrating the resilience and strength of women lawyers across Asia-Pacific. His speech resonated with the evening’s theme of uplifting women and fostering solidarity within the legal profession. The event then invited attendees to explore an array of vibrant exhibits showcasing Filipino craftsmanship, from the timeless elegance of locally sourced pearls to the innovative charm of one-of-a-kind handcrafted leather goods and artisanal scents. Each exhibit served as a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of Filipino women artisans, championing sustainability and heritage while empowering local communities and tribes.
The evening was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of the indomitable spirit of women. Female lawyers strolled through the exhibits, collecting unique souvenirs and delightful freebies, while sharing stories and forging connections. From crafting personalized candles to experiencing bespoke artistry, every interaction reinforced the power of women coming together to celebrate their achievements and support one another. Women in APAA wasn’t just an event; it was a celebration of shared strength and a meaningful reminder of how women empowering each other can drive lasting change.
