Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines
The Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP) is the Philippines’ premier organization for intellectual property practitioners, serving as a focal entity that fosters development, collaboration, and advocacy within the country’s intellectual property landscape.
As the leading organization for intellectual property in the country, IPAP is committed to every aspect of the protection of intellectual property, from their recognition, registration, and protection, to the enforcement of these rights against infringement and unfair practices. With its deep pool of expert practitioners, IPAP serves as a respected and necessary resource in the formation and continuous development of the legal landscape of IP in the country. IPAP has assisted in the drafting of legislation and implementing rules relating to the many facets of Intellectual Property Law for the Congress of the Philippines, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), the Optical Media Board, and other related government agencies.
IPAP’s commitment to excellence is reflected in its diverse range of programs and initiatives, such as:
- Education, training, capacity-building, and information dissemination through the organization of and participation in seminars, workshops, talks, lectures, and newsletters, and scholarship programs.
- Partnership with key stakeholders in the IP field on national, regional, and global levels, to promote and generate public support for intellectual property, including advocacy campaigns related to IP rights such as the “Unreal Campaign” for anti-counterfeiting and piracy.
- Provision of technical advice and opinion to relevant local government bodies and agencies such as Congress, the Supreme Court, IPOPHL, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines, Philippine Competition Commission, as well as international agencies and groups such as the USPTO, KIPO, WIPO, AIPPI and APAA, in relation to the formulation of legislation, development of new concepts, and implementation of programs and strategies, all in the IP field.
- Participation in national and international programs that support and develop the IP landscape.
From organizing seminars and workshops, to fostering partnerships with government agencies and industry stakeholders, IPAP’s notable achievements include the establishment of groundbreaking policies, successful advocacy campaigns, and the recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of intellectual property.
